Re: first stray of the year
i think any strays that are not wanted by the owner should be kept and given to a new starter as a means of getting them up and running for free

Re: first stray of the year
Well I think that is a good idea in principle, as it seems to be coming more and more difficult to get couriers to collect/return birds. The only downer is that some fanciers will take advantage of this and use it for an excuse because they cannot be bothered.
Remember it is the responsibility of the OWNER to arrange collection and return of their birds.
The big problem comes when birds are reported by non fanciers. What happens then.
I think all Clubs should give the Name, Address and Telephone number of the Secretary/Ring Secretary to the Police, Local Vets etc, to help non fanciers to contact someone in the sport. Even putting it in the "Essential Numbers" section of the local Yellow Pages can only be of benefit, not only to non fanciers wishing to report a found pigeon, but also as a contact for any one wishing to start up in the sport, to find a local club.

Re: first stray of the year
Email I sent to David Bills, General Manager, RPRA
Dear Sir, As not everyone has access to a computer, I was wondering if you would give careful consideration to the possibility of placing the Name, Address and Telephone No. of Secretary/Ring Secretary of each club that you issue rings to, in the Yellow Pages/Thomson Local. This could be placed in the "essential Numbers" section at the front of the publications, with a view to aiding non fanciers with the reporting of Racing Pigeons. I also feel it would help new starters to find a local club. I ask this as I have often seen on various pigeon portals, members of the public asking where they can relocate birds that they have found. Also many new fanciers have come on these portals asking "if anyone knows of a local club in their area". Hope you will give this some thought. It may also ease the work load of your staff. Just a thought.
Kind regards Bob Nichols
And his response
Dear Mr Nichols,
A very interesting idea.
Many thanks

So we will just have to wait and see if they adopt it.
