feel sorry for the pigeons, dont know how long they have been sat but by the looks of things they have have at least 4 weeks to survive before the ybs can leave and be safe.....odds are against them im afraid. hope the rspb and the council are pleased with them selves for protecting these preditors who hunt our birds....i wonder how they would like being ripped to bits....

Re: squatters in percy's nest
No Mike, it appears something untoward may have happened to the pigeons so they have turned the camera off because of the adverse publicity it will cause the RSPB over their so called protected birds who they maintain are vegan, and ALL pigeon fanciers know they are carnivores

Re: squatters in percy's nest
A previous Fort Peregrine fledgling
Peregrine Nestcam - or should it be Pigeon cam?
We all had high hopes - to witness a Peregrine Falcon hatching chicks and see those chicks fledge. But our peregrine has abandoned her nest and a pigeon has moved in...though it still could all change!
Watch: Live Peregrine/Pigeon cam >

You've probably noticed that our Peregrine cam based at Fort Dunlop, Castle Bromwich, has become a Pigeon cam!
It seems rather ironic considering that pigeons are one of the peregrines favourite prey. The worm has indeed turned as the saying goes. Louise Pedersen from the RSPB gives an update....
A pigeon has moved in
It's not over
We had high hopes for Fort Dunlop's peregrine pair this year and we are obviously disappointed - however how many people have ever seen a pigeon chick being born? This may be just the opportunity.
We may even still see the pigeons being evicted from the nest box and a new clutch of peregrine eggs laid. We just don't know.
It started with an egg...
It all started rather well with a curious twist along the way.
On 18 March, we noticed that the female peregrine had laid an egg in one of the boxes, hurrah. When we looked into the neighbouring box a few days later, what did we see but another egg!
Peregrine Falcon with her egg
This was rather peculiar because how on earth could she simultaneously sit on two eggs in two separate nest boxes, as each egg would need her body heat 24/7?
The female spent a week or so trying her best to incubate the eggs, and then one day she was gone without a trace.
Originally we blamed her absence on poor mothering skills and kept hoping that she would turn up again to lay a second clutch, but so far we haven't seen any signs of her or the male.
On 7 April, we could see that the eggs had been broken. Possibly a gull saw the unattended eggs as a smorgasbord. The peregrine mum hadn't been seen for a couple of weeks so we expected that this would happen.
We don't quite know what happened with the peregrines, but what we have seen isn't typical behaviour.
Was she disturbed?
Is it because she's young and inexperienced? Possibly. Or did she get spooked by something? Nesting peregrines are very sensitive to disturbance and it is possible that something might have happened outside the nest which made her feel that it was too dangerous to stay. Or has she gone somewhere else to nest? That's also possible.
So instead of spying on peregrines, all eyes are now on a nesting pigeon. At least someone is using the nest box for raising a family!
Hello Pigeon!
Although some of us may think that pigeons aren't quite as exciting to watch as Peregrines, I'm almost positive that the pigeon webcam is the first ever for Birmingham!
If you look, you'll see the female in the corner of the box. I could only see one shiny white egg, but others have said that they could see two.
Pigeons are far from dull, and one unique thing about pigeons is that they feed their young (called squabs) on so-called crop milk.
Crop milk isn’t really milky, it's rather solid, but very high in protein and fats, and like mother's milk contains all the good stuff that youngsters need to grow quickly.
As we are waiting for the young pigeons to hatch, time will show if the peregrines will return. If they do, our pigeon tenants better watch out!

something very suspicious going on with the nestcam....its been off for a few days and now its back on theres no sign of the pigeons...and, as some watchers said the eggs had hatched...there is no sign of them either.
the egg that has been in the box for weeks has moved about 8 inches so something has gone on and it stinks.... :Not a chance:
