I hope the birds ok Lozza.
Well done on taking the time to take care of the poor thing. If you havent managed to get hold of the owners, you need to keep the bird in a box or rabbit hutch give water and some small seeds if you have them. Just check on him from time to time as when they are injured they can go into shock. But normally they are hardie creatures. If the birds been bleeding, you could clean him up a little.
Thank you again for taking the time to join the site and letting people know you have the bird.
Hope you and the bird have a posative result
All the best
Amanda

Hi, thank you for responding. We gave him water and some seeds and had him in a plastic crate thing to make him comfortable... he wasn't bleeding but didn't look very well at all - seemed and had green stuff in the bottom of the crate... we tried cleaning him up a bit but unfortunately he didn't last longer than a couple of hours - much to the disappointment of our 6 year old :(

Hi Lozza im so sorry, more so for your 6 year old . Its so hard in this sport of ours, as we are trying to encourage kids and small children to get involved in our sport wheather it be thru family or schools. Then they see a bird die at close quarters so to speak. It can put them off.
The greenish mess at the bottom of the crate was the pigeons waste ( poo) he was clearly a ill bird and shock effects them all the more when hit by wires or animals (cats ,hawks) their little bodies already has a cocci count, but when stressed or hurt this count rises rappidly and then becomes very dangerous to them, can cause death.
Thank you yet again for trying to help one of our wonderful little athletes of the sky. Im so glad that good people like yourself are out there to try and take care of our featherd friends
Yours in sport
