Got accepted into my local club last week so hope to fly a few young ones this year. Some were not accepted for what reason I don't know, but I was told I was lucky to get in. Seems a hard sport to get into especially as the sport is in decline. I wanted to join the clubs in my area 2 years ago but was told I would have to wait till the AGM in January as it was only Febuary when I asked I decided to take up tippler flying. Shame the hawks ate them all.

Re: In the club
The hawks seem to take no notice of my racing pigeons and as of yet I have not seem any get chased or took by percy. But them the racing pigeons do fly miles away and only for an hour or two. To be honest I hardly ever see percy any more. But when tippler flying Percey was there all the time waiting for the tipplers to come up to him. Tipplers are so slow and never fly far from the loft is just to easy for percy. My last 8-9 tipplers were given to a tippler flyer just up the road from me. He put jackets on them and has had most of them took by percy the tipplers from me he has left are to be bred next year to have jackets on in the hope percy takes them. His tipplers fly 16 hrs at least in the summer time and he cannot fly without one getting taken, he then gets disqualified as one of his kit is missing even though the other birds have done 20 hrs they do not count.

Re: In the club
Bristol was full of tippler flyers. The club I just joined most members were first tippler flyers but this was back in the 50-60's when a tippler was never taken by any hawk. Out of the thousands of tippler flyers the tippler club has only about 2 members left in Bristol even the UK secretary lives in Bristol and no longer keeps tipplers as they get taken.
You racing lads think you have it hard loosing a few birds to the hawks. I lost 40 tipplers in my first come back year to the hawks and thats birds I have watched being taken not ones that must have been hawked while racing.
