    Slit from tit to toe

Post by Bob on Sun Jul 04, 2010 6:46 pm

Had a young bird return from training (55 miles) a day late Friday. From just below the beak she had a sliver of skin hanging 1/4” thick and about 3” long. Lots of blood as the sliver swung about her neck and head while she returned home. As she drank the water fell from her crop. She had a hole about the size of 1p in her crop and was slit from crop to beak.
I popped along to the shop and bought a tube of super glue. The dragon held the bird and I cut the sliver of skin and removed it. I super glued the hole and slit. After a few mins I put her back in the loft where she went straight to the water again only this time the crop was sealed.
Today she is eating and well she even managed a few circles while sunning herself on the loft roof

I'm very pleased with the way she is healing. She seems back to her old self and standing her ground against other young birds.
Youngbird racing starts in less than 2 weeks so this bird will miss the first races. I will retrain her with my 2nd batch of birds as these are just flying and will catch the races at the later stage.
